The Origin
Aité Eco Resort has its roots in a love affair with nature and the beauty of the Caribbean. In the 1970s, Carlos Samper, a native of Cachaco, and Martha Herrera, a Uruguayan, arrived in the pristine lands of Palomino, where roads didn't yet exist. The only way to get there was by crossing roads from Riohacha. Following the advice of a good friend, they arrived at the paradisiacal beaches of Palomino and fell madly in love with the place, both its sea and its magic. From that moment on, they decided to make this corner of the world their home.
First Steps
The beauty of the place captivated not only Carlos and Martha, but everyone who visited. Inspired by their love for the place, they decided to move to Palomino and build two small cabins on the seashore. What began as a family dream quickly transformed into a small bed and breakfast, a cozy retreat on a property that was once virgin rainforest. Thus were born the first foundations of what is now Aité Eco Resort.
Aité Eco Resort
Over the years, Paula, Carlos and Martha's daughter, grew up by the sea, embracing the magic of the turtles that came to nest on the beaches of Palomino. It was she who, with a deep connection to the place, decided to turn that small refuge into a larger project, a space where more people could experience the beauty and serenity of Palomino. Together with family capital and the support of partners who believed in her vision, Paula took Aité to a new level of excellence.
Evolution
Over the years, Aité Eco Resort has grown and evolved. New cabins have been built, increasing our capacity without losing the tranquility and nature that characterizes us. The kitchen has also been renovated to house what is now Wazalé, a restaurant that fuses the best of local cuisine with a unique experience. Additionally, an infinity pool was added, a perfect place to relax while enjoying a cocktail and the sound of the Caribbean Sea.
Through all these changes, we remain committed to sustainability and connection with nature, offering our guests an authentic experience in one of the most special places in the Colombian Caribbean.

The Propalomino Foundation
To continue the legacy of our founders, Carlos Samper Wills and Martha Herrera de Samper, we have donated a portion of the resort's profits to the Propalomino Foundation, created in their honor. The foundation's primary goal is to improve the quality of life for the children and community of Palomino, with a special focus on access to education and social well-being.
Our Projects
Community Development and Education: In collaboration with the Fútbol con Corazón Foundation, we are implementing a community development program for 120 children in the region, providing them with tools for their personal and academic growth. We are also building a community library equipped with books and internet access to support the learning of Palomino's youth.
Support for Indigenous Schools
We work with schools in Kogi and Arhuaco indigenous communities, ensuring that children have access to state education, as well as instruction in their ancestral language and culture.
Scholarships for Higher Education
We seek to create a scholarship program to provide young people from Palomino the opportunity to access higher education and achieve their professional goals.
Social Investment Housing
We are working on a project to improve housing conditions in Palomino, with the goal of providing decent and affordable options for local residents.
Donations to the Community
Over the years, we have donated land and resources for various community projects, including the soccer field, the cemetery, the indigenous home, the seniors' home, and the La Nueva Mello neighborhood, among others.

Football with Heart Foundation
Fútbol con Corazón is a comprehensive community development program that uses soccer as a tool for leadership development and social empowerment. With a focus on youth well-being, we aim to ensure that every child and adolescent in Palomino not only learns about the sport, but also about fundamental values such as respect, cooperation, and commitment to their community.
The program not only focuses on teaching soccer, but also focuses on personal development, promoting assertive leadership and community service. Through this methodology, participants develop skills that enable them to be positive leaders and agents of change within their communities.
The project is designed to impact 120 children and adolescents in Palomino, providing them with tools to spend their time productively, distancing them from potentially risky behaviors, and guiding them through their personal and social development.

We have a wastewater treatment plant, which allows us to recycle black and gray water to irrigate our gardens, promoting conscious and responsible water consumption. Additionally, our solar heaters and the absence of air conditioning in the rooms and cottages help make our energy consumption more efficient and environmentally friendly.
Sustainable Products and Services
We care about the quality and impact of the products we use. We use biodegradable soaps both in our laundry facilities and for our guests' use. Our resort is completely smoke-free and noise-free, which contributes to maintaining clean air and a noise-free environment, respecting both our guests and the local wildlife.
Protection of Local Fauna
During sea turtle nesting season, we limit the use of lights on the beach to avoid disorienting them, thus collaborating with local initiatives that promote the protection of these species.
Reforestation and Sustainable Materials
We have reforestation areas and guarantee that all construction materials in our facilities come from sustainable sources, always committed to respecting the natural environment.
Composting and Recycling
Our kitchen waste is composted and transformed into fertilizer for our gardens. We also separate and recycle other waste, handing it over to recycling organizations. We produce our own fruits and vegetables, which are used directly in our restaurant, minimizing our ecological footprint.

We've built our own aqueduct and filter our water to reduce plastic bottle consumption. We're committed to being a place free of single-use plastics, offering only glass bottles, which, while wasteful, are easier to recycle and don't generate microplastics.
